The Challenge: Create a free standing app for Mäklarhuset aimed at first time buyers. The purpose of this app is to help the target audience in finding accomodations in an easy, fun and different way, as a complement to Hemnet, Booli and Mäklarhuset.se.
Mäklarhuset wants the app experience to be as simple and easy as possible. The main focus should be to explore and interact with suitable accomodations in a user friendly way. They also want the customers to have the opportunity to book a viewing as well as share the accomodation on sociala media.
The design solution should follow Mäklarhuset’s brand book, however there is room for new visual solutions if it benefits the target audience.
Target audience: 20-30 year olds looking for apartments in one of the bigger cities in Sweden.
Methods: Competitive Analysis, User Interviews/Surveys, User Testing, Wireframing, Prototyping.
We interviewed 5 people between 20-30 years old who were currently looking to buy their first accomodation in one of the bigger cities in Sweden.
We wanted to know:
- What stressed them out?
- What made them excited?
- Did they feel like they got the information they needed from current platforms?
- What was missing? If yes, what?
- Was the process fun? If yes, what?
- Was the process difficult? If yes, what?
We gathered that the majority of first time buyers felt overall stress and confusion. They were missing easy overviews and felt as if the platforms they were using today were designed for people who already knew how everything worked. They experience a lot of searching for answers in other places.
The parts that were the most exciting about the process was looking through the images of potential homes, invisioning yourself in a place that could potentially become yours. Another exciting part was going to viewings.
The most difficult part of the process was the financial aspect, figuring out what would be a good price range for you.
01. Being a first time buyer is overwhelming. Most people lean on external search engines throughout the process.
02. Not knowing what questions to ask and what to look for in order to find the right home for you.
03. The options are endless, it is hard knowing what area is most suitable for you in a big city.
01. The user will have access to extensive guides and word descriptions about relevant concepts that may otherwise feel overwhelming to a first time buyer, this will keep them from jumping in and out of the app.
02. The ability to calculate everything directly in the app to find out what occomodations are suitable.
03. A fun and interactive experience within the app with options to furnish the apartments as well as creating your own avatar, making an otherwise stressful purchase a little bit more fun and personalised.
